Many headaches originate in the neck. Your spine protects your nervous system which starts with the brain and becomes the spinal cord. When the vertebrae in your neck are unable to move properly, it can put stress on the surrounding muscles which can lead to headaches. To correct this problem a chiropractor gently adjusts the vertebrae. While there are different types of headaches (tension, migraine) and different causes (stress, poor posture), chiropractic care can be a very effective and non-invasive approach to preventing and relieving headaches. Many headaches originate in the neck. Yes! Dr. Shapiro has extensive training in extremity adjusting (ankles, knees, hips, wrists, shoulders) and provides care to many athletes and performers at all levels to help with extremity issues. His approach includes muscle strength testing to detect weakness which is often a precursor to pain and injury. Often pain originates from an unexpected location. For example, misaligned hips may result in knee pain. A complete evaluation will help determine the cause of pain and the best approach to care.
-
Not always. A complete evaluation at your initial visit will help determine if an x-ray is necessary. An x-ray may be needed to rule out trauma that requires outside attention. X-rays can also be helpful to evaluate the health of your spine (for example, detecting an abnormal curve or degeneration) and determine a care plan that best suits your individual needs.

A chiropractor typically uses his or her hands--or an instrument--to manipulate the joints of the body, particularly the spine, in order to restore or enhance joint function. This often helps resolve joint inflammation and reduces the patient's pain. Chiropractic adjustments are a highly controlled procedure that rarely causes discomfort. The chiropractor adapts the procedure to meet the specific needs of each patient. It may cause an audible “click” or “pop”, similar to when someone “cracks” their knuckles. This is simply the release of a gas bubble between the joints. The purpose of the adjustment is to correct your spinal restrictions and fixations and increase the joint mobility and range of motion to allow your body to heal and function at its best. Chiropractic focuses on the body's ability to heal itself. The brain controls every cell, tissue, organ and function of the body. The brain sends signals down the spinal cord and out the nerves to the whole body including muscles, organs, and glands. The spinal cord is protected by 24 moveable segments know as vertebrae. Misalignments of these vertebrae can cause nerve interference preventing the brain and body from communicating properly. This can result in dysfunction or dis-ease in the body which often begins prior to pain or symptoms. The goal of chiropractic care is to correct these misalignments, removing interference from the nervous system so the brain and body can communicate. This gives the body an opportunity to function properly and helps create an environment for better health.Item description

More and more people are consulting chiropractic doctors, especially in their later years. With growing concerns about over medication and side effects of combining various prescription drugs, safe and natural chiropractic care is growing in popularity. Restoring better spinal function can help improve mobility, vitality, endurance, and patient appetite. Many patients report improvement with arthritic symptoms and other chronic ailments often associated with the aging process. The adjusting technique used by your doctor may be modified for maximum comfort and result. As we get older and wiser, the simplicity and effectiveness of chiropractic care becomes more and more obvious.

There are times when intervention in the form of medicine or surgery is absolutely necessary, but we believe starting with the least invasive approach is always best. Ongoing education, information and communication are the core values of our practice. It's your health and your choice! Informed decisions are an essential part of good health care.

Anytime is a good time for a better functioning nerve system. Pregnant mothers often find that chiropractic adjustments improve their pregnancy and make delivery easier for themselves and their baby. Adjusting methods are always adapted to a patients size, weight, age, and condition of health. Dr. Shapiro is certified in the Webster technique, which aids in achieving optimal fetal positioning. Simply put, ongoing chiropractic care gives you the extra advantage you need to be active, healthy and happy.
There are many other benefits that patients report from receiving chiropractic care on a regular basis, even if they are experiencing little to no pain.
Better sleep quality- many patients sleep longer and more soundly after an adjustment.
Better digestive health- many patients report less indigestion, heartburn, and bowel irregularity after a chiropractic adjustment.
Less colds, flus, and infections- chiropractic adjustments "heighten" the function of the immune system.
Fewer muscle spasms and less numbness- normal moving spinal joints do not irritate muscles, or nerves as much.
Better athletic performance- chiropractic care improves strength and flexibility, improving performance and reducing the frequency of injury.
Less anxiety- adjustments quiet down our body's "fight or flight" response to stress (attenuates the sympathetic nervous system).
Fewer headaches- many report less frequent headaches and migraines, and if one is experienced they are usually less severe.
Less severe allergies- many patients report increased sinus drainage after an adjustment and a lessening of allergy symptoms.
Less need for medication- Many chiropractic patients report using less medication after starting care. (Especially pain medication.)
Better mental clarity- many report improved focus and attention.
Better circulation- Older patients or sedentary patients report feeling like they have better circulation after receiving treatment.
